As students at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, Sohum Kodilkar and Adam Park noticed that most students never encounter biomedical engineering until college, if they encounter it at all. Motivated by their interests in engineering and medicine and a desire to give back, they founded Young Medical Engineers in 2026. Since then, the organization has grown into a board of nine students who run free tutoring, talks, design challenges, and hands-on demonstrations for students exploring the field.
Adam is a junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He is passionate about pursuing a career in mechanical engineering. In his free time he enjoys weightlifting, building things, and listening to K-pop.
Sohum is a junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He is passionate about pursuing a career in medicine and aspires to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer and pickleball, weightlifting, and spending time with friends.
Thomas is a junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He is passionate about pursuing a career in biomedical engineering and enjoys exploring how the field can be used to solve real-world problems. Outside of academics, he enjoys playing tennis and violin.
Wyatt is a junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He is passionate about pursuing a career in mechanical engineering. In his free time he enjoys weightlifting, reading, and hanging out with his friends.
Sanjit is a junior at Dunlap High School. He plans to major in computer science in college and enjoys playing tennis and pickleball.
Mia is a sophomore at Glenbrook South High School. She plans to pursue a career in medicine and enjoys playing tennis.
Rishaan is a junior at Stonehill International School in Bangalore, India. He aspires to become a biomedical engineer. His hobbies include tennis, golf, and robotics.
